[Opinions] Leia
I'm not a Star Wars fan but I really like Leia. How would you pronounce it? LAY-ah? And where are you from? How is it pronounced in your country and in the movie in your country's version (if you watched it)?Do you think it's too silly, made-up, Star Wars fanatic-ish? ;)Would people assume I was a huge fan of the movies?According to the comment section it might be based on the Greek word for princess which is vasileia. Does anyone know if this is really the Greek word for princess and how it is pronounced in Greek (the word).Would it always get confused with Leah?

Love it / would use it! I think people would make the Star Wars connection, but they wouldn't think you were a total fanatic. I'm from America and I say LAY-ah. I have heard that it is a hebrew name meaning weary; if so, it is related to Leah. It may get confused with Leah, but I don't think it would get confused too often.

My hubby is a huge SW buff and I honestly do not think Princess Leia every time I automatically hear Leia. Hopefully it's not just me... I think it's a very pretty girl'a name!

I know this is pronounced Lay-ah, but I always see it as Lee-ah. I pronounce Leah like Lay-ah, as it is in the old testament.

"According to the comment section it might be based on the Greek word for princess which is vasileia. Vasileia means regality and it's pronounced va-si-LEE-a.

I would pronounce it LAY-ah and it's pn that way here in Canada. I don't think it's silly at all very similiar to Leah.I think that if you aren't a Star Wars fanatic your fine. I myself am married to a Star Wars GEEK and therefore would not use it. If I like a name and he says Ohhhhh Star Wars I run.I do think there might be confusion wiht Leah. It's very close but that would only be people that just meet her.
