[Opinions] Nellie
I heard the name Nellie last night as the name of a girl in college. What full names could Nellie be short for or do you think Nellie is her given name? What do you think of the name?

It's quite possibly her full first name, it doesn't have to be a nn for anything. My nan's name is Nellie.

How about Nella with the nickname Nellie?

I dislike Nellie because of old "Little House on the Prairie" associations and because calling someone "nelly" isn't necessarily a nice thing at all. Actually, I was very surprised that a R&B singer/rapper (whatever the heck he is) calls himself just Nelly. :b I guess we run in different circles, though. I do like Nell, though, as a nn for Eleanor or Penelope, oddly enough. :)

Nellie should not be a full name. I think it should be short for:
Eleanor
Penelope
Cornelia
Caroline/ Carolyn/ Karolyn
Lynn/ Lynettecombos Nellie could be short for:
Anna Elizabeth
Eleanor Louisa

Nellie could be a nn for Cornelia or Penelope tooI love Nellie, both as a formal name and as a nn. It sounds so soft and sweet."You sought a flower and found a fruit. You sought a spring and found a sea. You sought a woman and found a soul. You are disappointed."

The top name (and probably what I would choose if I had a girl) on my girl list is Eleanor, nn Nellie or Nell. ______________________________________________

I know a girl named Nelly ( it is actually getting trendy-popular in Sweden), so sure, it could have been her real name.
Could also be for Eleanor, Helen, Ellen....

I think it's cute as a nickname for Eleanor or Elinor but I like Ellie better. Image hosted by Photobucket.com

I dislike the name, because a "nelly" is an "idiot" where I live. Her full name might've been Helen or Eleanor. I'm Elinor, and can tolerate Elly though I only like Elle. If anyone dared call me Nelly (or worse, Nell) I'd fly for them!
