[Opinions] Marian...wdyt?
What do you think of this name? Is it useable for little girls today, and if so, would you consider it fn material or mn only? I love the medieval connotations, Robin Hood, as well as the fact that my grandmother's name was Maria, so it would honor her.Let me know your thoughts..TIA!

It's my father's name! It's masculine where we come from. For a girl I also like the association with Robin Hood. I do prefer Mary, Marie, or Maria though.

I like it, mostly because of the medieval connotations and Robin Hood. Otherwise I'd probably think it was boring-ish (like Jane... I thought it was too boring until I had some sort of association.) Anyway, I'd consider it mn material for myself, but it's good for a fn on someone else's kid.

I had a student last year named Marian. She is 13 now. It is completely usable.

Marian is okay. It always makes me think of the adjective - like, having to do with the BVM. And it looks like Marianne, only shortened, to me.I really like Marion though. Marion Cotillard makes it hip, too.

It's OK; I've known a few, none of whom is young. Much more useable than Mary Ann, but not as zingy as Marianne.

I prefer Miriam myself, but I think it's fine for little girls today. It works well as a first or middle name.

Like it and think it's perfectly useable.

I like it for the same reasons you do. It's a much better spelling than Marion. I think it's perfectly usable. I'd love to see a baby Marian.

I like Marian a lot. Its never been a favourite but I have been thinking about it more lately. It is very sweet and such a beautiful forest green colour to me. I definitely think it is usable for little girls today- it is unusual without being weird. I don't think too many people would batt an eyelid at it really. Definitely fn material but it would make a nice mn too. I'd just like to see it used more in any position really!

Oh Marian is lovely. I think it wouldn't be hard at all for a little girl to carry this name. I would recommend spelling it Marion, though. I believe that's how Maid Marion spelled her name.
