You asked in a much earlier post how I pronounce the name Undine.
Well, the letter U in Undine makes a vowel sound exactly the same as the "ou" in the word should. The "dine" syllable is pronounced the same as "dean."

So, sort of like oon-deen. Right? Okay, that's better than what I was imagining. I haven't ever heard it said aloud and I am inclined to think it's pronounced with a short U like undone, and the -ine with a long I. Unlined, undine.
I guess my problem is that I first saw the word in the context of some sort of fantasy stuff - a water elemental. And I was inclined to pronounce it wrong I guess - uhn-dyne. And since I often (it's human nature you know) expect other people to have the same reactions I have, it seems really bad. But I admit, if you introduced a girl to me as Oon-deen, I might be a lot more charmed by it.
