I am thinking of naming my daughter Lucia Paige with a very italian last name. What are your thoughts on this? She would be called Lucy. The pronunciation I prefer for Lucia is the spanish version of lu-see-ah.

I really like the Spanish prn of Lucia. It's a lot nicer then the 'Lu-chee-ah' prn in my opinion.

I think Lucia is a lovely name, especially with that pronunciation.
The only problem I have is that if you have a very Italian last name, it would seem odd not to use the Italian pronunciation.

I don't think it would be odd unless I lived in Italy... I think most americans will be oblivious to the italian pronunciation (unless they are hard core italians themselves... and by this I mean off the boat, or maybe one generation removed from off the boat). LOL>
spanish & italian both romance languages.. I don't think lu-see-ah is too much of a stretch. I actually think a lot of people will think my preferred pronunciation is the italian version. People are generally clueless I have found... :)

My name is Lucia and I LOVE it. I changed my name to it 4 years ago :o) I started off with the "loo-sha" pronunciation just because it was the only one I'd been exposed to up until that point. I moved to Spain last year though, and so that pronunciation went out the window. I really love "lu-SEE-ah" (or in my case over there, "lu-THEE-ah") now.
I go by Lucy more often than not, though (and that's why I changed my name to Lucia in the first place). Lucia nn Lucy is fantastic, imo!
Gotta say, Paige does nothing for me as a middle name, but it's nice enough.

Thanks Lucia ! I would be curious what you would suggest as an alternative nickname? Part of me doesn't want to relinquish my very much loved Paige... but at the same time I know I could find something that flows better.

I'm not really a huge fan of Paige in any slot, but if you're set on it, then Lucia Paige is nice.

I love Lucia. It's very pretty :) (I didn't know there was another pronunciation besides lu-see-ah though.) I don't like Paige, but the combo is alright.
Okay, I just read the other posts. I've never heard LOO-sha, so I don't think you'd have many pronunciation problems (depending on where you live).

lu-CHEE-ah is the Italian pronunciation, so there's 3 ways to say it :o)

Yes, there are 3 ways. I prefer the lu-see-ah pronunciation (I believe that is the spanish version?). I am not a big fan of the italian version, because I feel like the "che" sound is a little harsh to my ears, but I am sure in Italy that particular sound is very common in names and I am just not used to it. I really don't care for the "lu-sha" pronunciation....no offense at all to those that do. It just reminds me of the island and I don't love the sound of it. That version just sounds so american to me!

I think it's a very pretty name! Lucy is super cute, but Lucia has this darker sophisticated feel to it. It works out great to use Lucy as a nn for it. And Lucia Paige is a nice combo. Go for it!
ETA: The only problem I can see with it is it being mispronounced since there are like three pronunciations for it (I'd say LOO-sha first). But I think loo-SEE-a would probably be the most commonly said one, so not really a big deal.

thanks Llewella... but what do you mean by darker? lol i admit being a little paranoid that some might see it being close to "lucifer" in spelling... so you saying darker did frighten me a bit. I have never seen that connection before, but I know some do.

Not bad darker, darker just color-wise. Lucia is a dark color (maybe navy blue) and Lucy is kind of yellow to me.

Funny. Lucy is also yellow to me, but Lucia is more orange, firey, rather than blue. Probably because the L is yellow.

Hi, yes that is me! Actually before I think I was contemplating Paige Lucia... and now I am thinking about reversing it to be Lucia Paige. I love Lucia but am concerned about the multiple pronunciations. I am really beginning to love Lucy as a nickname though and think it might be worth the risk of dealing with people mispronouncing, especially if we will go by lucy most of the time. My family seems to think Lucia is a lot nicer than Paige too, and I admit I feel like that is influencing me a bit....
