I can't imagine it as a boys name. I tend to associate it with Disney's 'The Little Mermaid'. Well that or washing powder!!The hardest thing in this world is to live in it.

I think that Ariel is a great name for a boy! I'm not sure which pronuncation I prefer though.

As AH-ree-elI think of Ariel Sharon and that is how his names is pronounced in the news. But maybe English-speaking people always pronounce it as AIR-ee-el.I think Ariel is a good boy's name, but I don't like Ariel Sharon. But I like the meaning of Ariel (Good's lion, I think). But here it would probably be seen as a political statement (100% för Israel AND Ariel Sharon and his policy). I guess it is seen as a girl's name in USA."You sought a flower and found a fruit. You sought a spring and found a sea. You sought a woman and found a soul. You are disappointed."

Well AIR-ee-el and AY-ree-el are the same in my accent, and I pronounce it like that. I only love the name on a girl. I was won over by the Little Mermaid at a young age :-)_____________________________________________________________________Elinor'Why do people with closed minds, always open their mouths?'

There is a girl named Ariel in my class...she pronounces it Air-ee-el~"Nitwit! Blubber! Oddment! Tweak!" -Albus Dumbledore~

The correct Hebrew pron. is AH-ree-ale, but AH-ree-ell is fine. I like Ariel for a boy. I think the meaning is cool, and I've always been kinda annoyed at Disney for using that for the Little Mermaid. I mean, a boy's name, meaning Lion of God?? For a mermaid??? But that might be a teasing problem, though.YT:)

I don't have a pronounciation preference, although I'm more apt to go with the most natural one for the region you live in. As for the name itself, I can't get past "The Little Mermaid" and the current Prime Minister of Israel (not passing a political judgment. I have too many different visuals to actually look at the name sincerely.

I like AIR-ee-ell the best.

I prn it like your first option, Ah-ree-ell, and I prefer it for a boy, too. I think in today's society, it would probably be viewed negatively, but we can always pray for another Renaissance when people return to the classics and realize that oh yeah other people were here first, and look what they thought!

I love this name, but only for a girl, sorry. I pronounce it AIR-ee-el though.

I love Ariel (AH-ree-el) for a boy, and Arielle (ah-ree-EL) or Ariella for a girl.

AIR-ee-el, and I dislike it alot for a girl, but... Hmmmm, if you pronounce it Ah-ree-UL, it's kind of cute for a boy, especially with the nn Ari! [My big brother's name]:)

I know a girl named Arielle, (AH-ree-ell),so it's distinctly feminine for me. It sounds like a Disney princess, so I think a boy with this name would be teased.

Welcome! You'll probably get more people to notice you if you make a separate post, though. And you may want to "announce" yourself on both the Opinions and the Lounge boards, as there are some people who spend most of their time on one board and not another. Anyway...
My name is Korrine. I'm also 27 and live w/my DH, John in NY. We have 2 children, Victoria Kathleen (3 1/2), nns Tori, Toria and Tori Kate and Noah Michael (2), nn Bruiser, NoNo & Nonah. I hope you enjoy your time spent here; I know I do (and I spend waaay too much time here as it is, even though you'll probably not see me around too much). Merry Christmas!

Hi Seda,
Nice to "meet" you, and thanks for the welcome. I love the boards. I think I'm addicted.
So here's a little about me: I'm a 32 year old high school teacher. I have a seven year old son named Baylor Gregory, and I'm trying to conceive baby #2 (right now Dawson Nicholas for a boy and Élan ??? for a girl). I've been divorced, and have just married the most awesome man on the planet. I'm a conservative Christian, and I have ALWAYS been a name nerd. My mother has told me that my baby dolls when I was little had first and middle names!
I love thinking about names, helping family and friends come up with names for their kids, etc... I'm so disgusted when someone tells me, "Oh so-and-so had their baby, but I don't know what they named it." I also abhor super common names. My opinion is that there are about a ka-zillion original and beautiful names to choose from, so there is no point in giving your child a name they have to share with 1/3 of the population! Whew! Enough ranting and raving, so I'll shut up now.
I just give my opinions of names and try to avoid getting into an online argument with anyone.
So Seda, nice to meet you again, and thanks for the welcome.
Tell me a little about yourself?Gretchen

Wow..nice to meet you, Gretchen-dear!You sound quite perfect for this place, and yes, it is addicting. It should come with a warning label.I'm 31 and a conservative Christian as well. :)
I'm married to the other best nman on the planet. :P
His name is James and we have five children named Promise Merryn(7), Keraden Skylaye(6), Escapade Skyleise(6), Treasure Esteem(4), and Harmony Lyla(13mo.) Obviously, my style is word names. :)I have been a name nerd for some time, but I don't think my dolls had middle names..hehe. I started liking named more around secondary school when I started writing stories and scripts. I had to name my characters and when looking for appropriate names I picked up on the name Cheya..from there on, I feel in love. haha! I own an amateur theatre and I'm a playwright(well, I try my best..hehe). I love music, drama, The Lord of the Rings, Greek mythology, and Kelly Clarkson music. :)What do you teach in high school? Where do you live? (I live in SC, btw.)-Seda*

Wow, your children's names are unique! I don't remember what your opinion of Élan was, but since it is a word meaning enthusiastic vigor and liveliness; distinctive style or flair, you must love it.
I actually went to summer camp YEARS ago with a girl named Treasure. I also had Marin Ruth as a possible girl name before DH vetoed the idea.
So, what's it like to have five children? I have one and I'm tired. Are you planning to have more? I think I'd like to have three more. I've heard that it's easiest when you keep the number of children you have even. I guess you need one more to fit that theory.
I teach sophomore English, and I live in Louisiana."Talk" to you later,
Gretchen
P.S. I like your sig picture.

I'm not sure I replied to Élan, but I do like it. Marin sounds like a nice mix to keep Ciarda (another great board member) and I happy. Ciarda loves Ruth and I love Marin. :)I'm going to never know personally about that statistic. I don't plan to have anymore unless God plans otherwise. I guess I won't protest then, but Treasure and Harmony weren't even planned so...
We adopted Keren and Essie and I thought that would be all. I always wanted three children, not three biogolical and two not..hehe. I guess I should have specified myself when praying all those years ago..hehe. Five children always keeps it interesting, but at least their close in age. I see families with children of all ages and panic. One in college and one in a carseat! Imagine! Where you highly affected by Katrina and Rita?Ah, an English teacher! I loved English in school. You would have been my favourite..hehe. :)-Seda*
