[Opinions] Erasmus
Erasmus has been on my mind lately; I've recently started liking it more and more. WDYT? Do you prefer it as a FN or MN? Do you like Elmo for short?

I do not care for it. It sounds old to me. I also do not like the beginning sound. It is hard for me to say. I don not like Elmo. I never have. I doubt I will ever like it.

I like Erasmus, but love Erasmo (or Erazmo). I think it would be better as a middle name, since it is rather unusual.
Elmo is a puppet and can't imagine it on a child.

I think Erasmus is nice and I love love LOVE Elmo but would never be brave enough to use it as a full name. So the thought of getting to use it but have something for the child to fall back on - something as serious and dignified as Erasmus - is thrilling to me. I say go for it!

Do you say e-RAZ-mus or e-RAS-mus? Where I live, it's used as a given name by Afrikaans speakers, though not much nowadays. Then it's more like eh-RUS-mus, and it shortens comfortably to Ras, pronounced Rus.I rather like it, but I'm not at all familiar with Elmo and I really don't find it attractive at all.

I say e-RAZ-mus, though the two aren't much different in my accent.

I like it. It seems very intellectual to me because of the Erasmus Darwin association.I like it better as a first name. It seems a shame to put such a nice name in the middle name slot. I don't like Elmo as a nickname, because it reminds me too much of the Sesame Street character.

I kind of like it. It makes me think of an old person though, because the first thing I think of is Erasmus Darwin. Elmo seems like a bit of a stretch, but I think it could work. I prefer Erasmus as a mn.

I think Erasmus is nice, definitely not the nn Elmo though. I'd perfer it as a MN.

I never knew Elmo and Erasmus were related. Thanks.I love Erasmus! Definitely a fn. It's so cool it would be a shame to bury it where people won't see / hear it much. I prefer the nn Raz, but Elmo is fun too.
