[Opinions] Lorelei/Lorelai/Laurelie
Lorelei has been growing on me lately, but despite the Germanic origins of the nema, I tend to pronounce the 'ei' letter combination as a long 'a' sound (e.g. Leila). The spelling Lorelai was used on Gilmore Girls for the title characters, and the 'ai' ending makes more sense in my head, although this spelling is far less common. And then I met someone once with the spelling Laurelie, pronounced like Lorelei. Visually it was pretty, but the pronunciation seemed counter-intuitive.So... Lorelei, Lorelai, or Laurelie? Which is your favorite?

The only one that makes sense to me at all is Lorelei. I don't like it, but the spelling is fine. The other ones look as if they'd got dressed during a power failure - nothing quite matches.Laura however is one of my all-time favourites.

Lorelei is the only spelling that I like. The others look ugly.

Lorelai:)

Lorelei, by a long shot. Lorelai looks wrong to me, even though there is a character in my favorite game series with this spelling. Laurelie looke like "Laura Lee" or an elaboration of Laurel.

I prefer Lorelei. I want to pronounce Laurelie as laura-lee for some reason

Lorelei is the only one I like (a little, I still wouldn't use it). It's the most intuitive spelling from my point of view.I guess it's a matter of why you would use the name, is it because of the rock and the myth about it or just because it has a pretty sound? If it's the latter, spelling is not that important but if you use it because of the legend / history, I'd stick with the original spelling.

I like Lorelei, but I probably wouldn't use it. I don't like the others so much.

I honestly just like Lorelei... I read Lorelei first, so Lorelai just seems like an odd/awkward spelling to me, even if the pronunciation makes more sense. If I saw Laurelie, I'd say Laurel + ee. If you want to put "Laurel" in it, I'd definitely use Laurelai or something.

Lorelei. To me, it looks right. I think the -ei at the end is distinctive enough that even if people don't naturally say it as a long I sound, it's not hard to learn. And besides, it's actually correct... I think it doesn't look like it was "fixed" to suit someone who might not know how to pronounce it. If I were going to be given this name and my parents didn't spell it Lorelei, I would change it to Lorelei.Lorelai looks like it should be "Lor-eh-lay," to me.
Laurelie looks like it should be "Laurel-lee," to me.
