Your thoughts on the name Dominique? A friend has it on her list for a girl (it's pretty far down the list) but it got me thinking about the name and I sort of like it.

I love Dominique. I've never heard it used where I live, but would love to see it.

Eugh. I have a love/hate relationship with this name. On a boy, I like it, but such usage is really impossible where I live. On a girl, I think it's hard-edged and snotty. I find it really dated and unfashionable too.
Maybe my relationship with Dominique is more hate than love now that I think about it.

I like it. I have for some years. It's never ranked amongst my favorites, but it's very usable for me.

I've started to really like it this year, too. It seems highly feminine and highly capable, and reverent and sassy at the same time. Great name.

It's pretty. I don't see it very often these days, especially not on these boards. It's elegant, but at the same time, strong and vivacious.

Thats what I'm starting to think, simultaneously a friend and a cousin put it on their lists (they dont know eachother) so Im wondering if it's starting to grow in popularity too.

That's interesting that they both had it on their lists despite not knowing each other. Over the past few years, I've actually been seeing it less than I used to. It did increase in popularity in the U.S. between 2009 and 2010, but it's still pretty low on the top 1,000 list (it was #904 in 2010). Perhaps it's continuing to rise in popularity, though. Or maybe it's more popular in your area than in other places?

I'm not sure about it's popularity, my friend is in the US but my cousin is in France where I think it's even less popular but I'm not sure. One never really thought much about it until now.

The height of its popularity in France was in the 50s, so I believe Dominique is perceived as dated and seen way more on grandparents and parents than babies. I did some research on Dominique for a story I was writing, and it appears that in 1959 there were over 1100 female Dominiques and over 1000 male Dominiques born in Paris alone. By 2000, when my character was born, there were about 50 male Dominiques and only 4 female Dominiques born in the whole country. It seems it's not a stylish choice these days in France. It's used more in the U.S. and Quebec.

I was looking at it and thought the same but on all the French boards old names are coming back (just like in the US)so maybe it's on the rise? Who knows.
