[Opinions] Re: Julie
in reply to a message by Lily
Julie was a Top 20 name the year I was born, so I grew up with a lot of them, and I still know quite a few my age, give or take 15 years. Because of this, it does feel far more dated to me than Julia, Juliet, Juliana, Julianna, or Julienne. Julie also feels very nicknamey to me, despite knowing full well that it's a complete and proper name on its own. Sophie and Sylvie don't give me the same feeling at all, so I don't know why I feel this way about Julie, but I do. Julia or Julie and why? Julia, for the reasons listed above.Juliet 'Julie' or just Julie? Juliet "Julie", ditto.Juliet or Juliette? Do you pronounce them the same? Juliet. I pronounce them the same, for the most part. I'm slightly more likely to pronounce Juliet as JOO-lee-et and Juliette as joo-lee-ET, but I flip-flop a lot on both. I guess I use whichever sounds best and feels most natural at the given moment. Juliana or Julianna? I don't really pronounce them the same: joo-lee-AH-na vs joo-lee-AN-a. I prefer the latter. Julianne or Juliana, Julianna? From these I'd pick Julianna, but I don't really like any of them. I prefer Julienne (joo-lee-EN/zhoo-lee-EN). Which Juli-name is your favorite and why? Julia, for no real reason. I'm lukewarm on all feminine members of the Juli- family. I much prefer Julian, Julius, Julien, and Jolyon.
