One of my grandmother's is named Nellie Grace, but goes by a nn Ciss, which I actually don't know how or why she got!

Cute as a nickname, but even then I prefer Nell.

I adore it, albeit strictly as a nickname (for Helen, Eleanor / Elinor, etc.).

I love it, especially as a nickname to Elinor/Eleanor.

Make mine a Nell.

I have very warm feelings toward Nellie since it's the name of my great grandmother. It was her full name, not a nickname, and she had no middle name. While I do feel Nellie is substantial enough to stand on her own, I still prefer her as a nickname. My great grandmother was an accomplished musician and music teacher. She was intelligent, wrote elegantly, kept a journal and, later in her life, took genealogical courses and became our family historian and researcher. When I was a girl, Grandma gave me a piece of tatting, which was handmade by Nellie, and this is always what I see in my mind when I see the name.
