[Opinions] Smith
I was reading an article in a magazine and the writer mentioned that her two year old son is named Smith. For some reason it's really interesting me-- not that I'd use it, but I just find it really neat. I also remember there was a poster on here who said his wife was expecting and they were looking for opinions. Last he posted, he said they were going with Smith.WDYT? Too popular as a surname to be considered at all? (Also, in this article, mom's name was Brandon. Dad was John.)

Smith is kind of cool as a first name. I also like Miller. Boring surnames can make really nice first names :P It doesn't matter that it's popular as a surname, it's rare as a given name. Oh and Samantha's boyfriend on Sex and the City was names Smith (I think it was just a nickname, though). Just a bit of trivia :P

I think it's interesting too, but I don't like it enough to consider using even if it was a family surname for me. It's so super surnamey that it sounds very academic and a bit stuffy for a first name. There is a set of dorms at my university named for two brothers, and one of them's first name was Smith.

I don't think Brandon on a woman is that ususual, considering Brandy's popularity. Her parents probably wanted a fuller name for Brandy. Anyway, on Smith... I don't hate it, but it seems so boring to me. What can you do with Smith? I love nicknames and Smith just disappoints. Plus it's so bland in the surname department that it doesn't even register as a fn for me.I find it funny that father is John and son is Smith. Hehe.

I just need to say that Brandon on a woman is not cool in my book..very not cool.As to Smith for a first name, it seemed very weird to me at first. Though it looks kre8tiv, I think I would like the old world-ish Smythe a tad better if we're talking about using it as a first name. After seeing Smith used a few times it seems less odd, but at the same time, it seems like a creative cop out. Smith HAS TO be at least in the top 3 of most popular last names in the US, so while it's different as a first name it isn't really all that innovative except in it's place in the line up. Overall it doesn't really encite much excitement in any direction... it just is.
