I pronounce it MEE-ah. I started to pronounce Maia as MY-ah, but then I realised it was probably MAY-ah, so changed.
I think it's one of those short and sweet names, like Eve and Lily. I'm surprised it's not more popular, even though it is pretty used.

No, Maia is MY-ah or MAH-ya, not MAY-ah. And Mia is insanely common.

I pronounce Mai as May so with an a at the end of it that makes MAY-ah, or it does around here anyway. Where I live Mia is actually not that common, I have only ever met one Mia and hardly hear of any.

Where I live it's very common and no one says MAY-ah, all say MY-ah. Also it's Hebrew/Indian in origin and pronounced MY-ah there as well (I know a Mayim and a Maya from Israel and heard Maya being pronounced in a famous Bollywood movie).
