[Opinions] Audrey or Aubrey?
I love the name Aubrey. I know it's a spinoff on the classic Audrey but I think Aubrey is better. They do sound very similar. Which one do you prefer?

I prefer Audrey for a girl. After meeting a male Aubrey and knowing that Aubrey is a form of the name Alberich, which is very masculine, it seems more fitting for a male to me. When given to girls, it has a completely different feel. I just think of other popular names for girls that were once male names, such as Ashley and Kelsey. As a male name, Aubrey has an old-fashioned, gentlemanly vibe.

Definitely Aubrey! It has the same general sound and feel as Audrey, but it's much friendlier. Audrey is easy for me to picture on a mean or overly bossy person, but Aubrey doesn't have that problem.

Aubrey. For a girl. Not a boy. Can't stand it on a boy actually. Audrey just seems dowdy to me.

AubreyI prefer Aubrey. I like Audrey very much, but I try to imagine saying Audrey 50 times a day to a three year old, and that Aud- ("odd") first syllable begins to grate on me. Aubrey sounds more pleasant, imo. I haven't read the other responses yet, but I'm sure it has already been pointed out that Aubrey and Audrey share a similar sound, but they aren't actually related. The have different etymologies and histories. Sorry to be repeating something you've probably already been told, but my namenerdiness demands I say it again just in case.

I think they both work well on girls. Yes, Aubrey is originally masculine but I think it's kind of silly to call it a boys name these days. It's in the top 20 for girls and Aubree is in the top 100 so while it was originally masculine it sure can also be called a girls name by now or at least a unisex name.I love them both. They make me think of autumn which is my favorite season. Of clear, bright skies and colorful trees. I love that image. I imagine an Aubrey to be a little more wild and outgoing and an Audrey to be more elegant and calm. I love the meanings of both names as well as their sounds. At the moment I'd choose Audrey. It's just not as common and less likely to sound dated. I also dislike how so many variants of Aubrey are being used. Aubree is in the top 100 and I've seen Aubrie, Aubri and Aubry. I've never seen Audrey in a variant spelling in real life. So that is a plus. Also Aubrey is just too common for me right now. I hope it will lose some of its popularity soon but it doesn't look like it will. I also love Autumn, by the way.Oh and Aubrey and Audrey don't have much to do with each other except for the similar sound. They are completely different names with different origins and meanings.

Audrey is dated and dingy and downmarket and hardly used at all. Aubrey is entirely male where I live - it's used quite a lot by Black parents. So no doubt it depends on where you live.

Yes, it depends where you live. Audrey has been in the top 100 in the United States since 2003, and in the top 300 since the 1880s.

I absolutely prefer Audrey; however, I love Aubrey on a boy.

Audrey. Has more of an elegant feel to it, where Aubrey is a bit more trendy to my ear.

For me, Audrey is all girl and I love it. Aubrey is all boy, the name of my gr grandmother's brother, a rugged farmer.

Audrey, but I like Aubrey too.

Aubrey and Audrey are totally different names to me. I don't consider Aubrey to be a spin-off of Audrey.Aubrey is not historically female, so I much prefer Audrey.

I prefer the classic Audrey. Aubrey seems a little low-class to me, although it sounds pretty enough. -
