[Opinions] Re: Eleanor vs. Elinor (plus other variant names)
I genuinely never noticed that Jane Austen spelled it Elinor in Sense & Sensibility. In my memory, it was Eleanor. I'm a bit undecided myself. Lenora is a definite no-no, because the OR ending is what makes these names so appealing! I like Lenore in theory, but when I think of it on a person, and especially on a child, it seems too heavy. Eleanor/Elinor are softer; they don't have that harsh emphasis on the last syllable. I go back and forth between the two spellings according to my mood, but in theory, Elinor is preferable because it doesn't have the "ea" issue, the unpronounced a (or ignored "ee" sound, however you choose to look at it).
