Effie is a bit too cutesy for me, but it could be endearing as a nickname. It has a down-to-earth, quaint, warm vibe. Euphemia is the first full name that comes to mind, but I think it works as a nickname for Josephine and just about anything with the "ef" sound.

I don't see any charm in it whatsoever. It's a name for a servant or a slave.

I think Effie is really cute! It does (just about) work as a nickname for Josephine because it has the "ef" sound in it. Spelling it Josefine might make it work better.I quite like Eufemia or Euphemia, which is the "official" full name for Effie. Stephanie or Stefania would also work.

I like Effie and I think it would be a good nickname for Josephine. Euphemia "Effie" is a little too much, but Josephine is a nice classic. If little Effie doesn't like her nickname or find it far fetched, then she could always go by something else.

I adore Effie. It's so cute and nostalgic. Effie can stand on its own as an Anglicized form of Oighrig. But I prefer is as a nn and it can easily be from Josephine. Other formal names could be: Persephone, Euphemia, Felicity, Zephyrine, Josepha, Sephora, Euphrosyne, Nefertiti or Stephanie.

I love your suggestion of Persephone! I have always loved it, but never thought of using Effie as a nickname. Thank you!

Effie is super cute! I love Josephine and I think Effie could definitely work as a nickname. Seffie and Josie and Jo and Feenie....so many great nicknames for an awesome name.

It's a Hunger Games name that I think, personally, would be wierd and out of place outside of the literary world. I think it's far fetched as a nickname for Josephine (which is a love name that would be ruined by Effie). I've never been fond of Effie as it reminds me of the word iffy - which means something dodgy where I come from.

I love Effie! Like many of the names that appeal to me the most, it manages to be dainty and brassy at the same time.I definitely think it works as a nickname for Josephine, though my favorite full name for it is Euphemia.
