I love Anne! Annemarie was one of Meg's "back-up names." I love Nan nicknames for it, though. I agree that it's very refreshing amongst all the flowery -a endings of things. Anna, blech. Anne, very nice. :)
Anne Genevieve, Anne Virginia, Anne Cecilia, and Anne Rebecca are great! I like Anne paired with something more unexpected.
I would think Anne and Jane would play up the plainness of both. Annie and Jane seems much cozier.
