[Opinions] Eréndira?
So I came across this name a while ago when going through name submissions (http://www.behindthename.com/submit/name/erendira), but it never really struck me until I heard it spoken, in reference to the Mexican actress Eréndira Ibarra. It was said like eh-REN-deer-ah and now I kinda love it!What do ya'll think?

It's pretty and has a fantasy feel to it.

I like it. I actually have a friend named Erendera, who is from Mexico. Her name is pronounced eh-REN-deh-ra, so very similar. She goes by Eren though, as there are not many Spanish speakers where I live.

It reminds me of Herendida, which is the name of a mom from Honduras that I help at work. I looked it up on Wikipedia, and found a medieval princess, who I can't find now to show you. Erendira was in there, though. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erendira

I've actually seen it before. I like it. Sounds like something from a fantasy book.

I love it. I think it is pretty, soft and compelling. However, it is very cultural specific, which makes it's usability limited imo. I think that the inevitability that people will confuse the pronunciation in English-speaking circles is a point against the name. But, if the parents were of spanish-descent that would totally over-ride the confusion. I would love to meet one, though I know I would never use it for a child myself. Not thinking of children - the name itself flows beautifully, rolls right off the tongue. It is ethereal but still a strong name. I imagine a very beautiful women with presence and poise.

Is it very culturally specific? I don't feel like it is. When I first saw it, I thought it might possibly be Basque or Welsh, and was surprised to see it's an indigenous Purépecha name. The pronunciation issue I agree with though, but there are a lot of names that people need to be told how to say, so that doesn't put me off entirely.

Kind of pretty, but only in Spanish. The American R makes it sound really harsh (not sure how it would sound in other English-speaking accents...maybe it'd be better).

Yeah, I tried saying it and it took a few times before it started to sound "right". Definitely not a name for American accents, at the very least :( I was thinking it might sound ok said by some British accents though.

Pretty! Has a very nice fantasy sort of feel to it, I think.
