Just drop the i, and all those pesky pronunciation problems will magically disappear.Unless, of course, you actually are French. If not ... Alan is a beautiful name.

Alan is a nice name, but I have a uncle named that who is disliked by most of my family, so that's not a option. I'm not planning on using Alain because of the similarity, but I'm still curious about what other people think of it.
