DidoI like neat, short names with good history & don't like -issa names or the Lav in Lavinia. Creusa is interesting - I've never seen it before, & wouldn't choose it as I immediately read it as croeso, but that probably only happens if you're Welsh :)

They're all from the Aeneid! Creusa was Aeneas's first wife - a Trojan woman, therefore, and a pillar of society. Elissa and Dido are one and the same Carthaginian queen, with whom Aeneas almost has a fling, for which she never forgives him. And once he's settled down in Italy, he cements an alliance with the local leader by marrying his daughter Lavinia. The only woman I can think of who appears in the poem but not in this post is, of all names, Camilla - she fought against Aeneas's troops and was a formidable opponent, but of course doomed to failure in the circumstances.

Hmmm.... For a middle name, I would pick Lavinia. Alice Lavinia sounds nice. As a first name, I would choose Elissa although I prefer the variants Alyssa, Alicia, or Alissa. Creusa and Dido are too tragic to serve as uplifting namesakes, and I don't care for the sound of the names.
