As a noun, the gift of eternal youth, though not in a good way. As a verb, thoroughly unsuitable. And, stop reading if you know this bit - one of my standard rants - there's a character called Fawn in the early Le Carre novels who is a security officer with passionate loyalty to Smiley and an equally passionate desire to mutilate anyone he doesn't like the look of as well as anyone that his seniors would like information from. No indication of whether Fawn is a name (fn? ln?), a nickname or a strange attempt at a joke. But, he has his uses!

Somebody asked about Fawn a while back, and I'm going to post the same thing here that I posted there:My only association with Fawn, besides a baby deer, is the off-screen character Fawn Liebowitz in Animal House, who died in a kiln explosion. One of the main characters goes to her dorm pretending to be her date, and another girl at the house gets all flustered and has to explain that she's dead, so the main guy's like, "I can't believe it! I talked to her just the other day! She was going to make a pot for me! Will you do me a favor? I don't think I should be alone tonight. Will you go out with me?... And could you get four dates for my friends?" (Thank you, queenv, for supplying the quotes!)So yeah, that's my impression of Fawn.

I don't like it. It feels very juvenile to me, probably because it's the name of a juvenile animal. I also knew a girl named Fawn, and she didn't do that much to make me like the name any more.

Its very delicate... in a sort of Angelic way. It makes me think of a blonde, but only a little girl. Not a big fan.

I don't really like it. It makes me think of 'fawning over' something.
