To me, Beau is a full name but Bo is simply an informal nickname. I definitely prefer Beau because it seems more solid to me.

Beau can be a full name. Bo is only a nickname (if you're from an English-speaking country anyway).

Bo looks more like a nickname or a name missing a few letters. Also, B.O (Acronym for body odor) Not exactly something anyone wishes to be associated with.

I would expect somebody named Bo or Beau to have siblings called Bubba and Lula-Mae. I can’t say I love it. Beau at least looks like a finished name. Bo is VERY nicknamey, and I can’t think of any names I’d want it to be short for.

Bo is probably fine on a Scandinavian or Chinese person, where it has a decent meaning, but in English it seems silly and meaningless, looks like B.O. and sounds like a frilly ribbon ornament, or something archers and string players use. Boudica is probably the least horrid option for an nn, but I think it should be short for Boandarro. Or Boselecta. Or Bodiddley.

Beau is so oozily romantic that it just makes me cringe - & think of this old boy who I used to be in an art class with, who had a curly waxed moustache and always wore a cravat. (His name was not Beau, but it would have fitted) And it's just wrong on girls. Their parents should be forced to go back to school and do French again.

I've known one young man named Beau, so I guess it does work as a full name. Though odd in a French-speaking community, where I live, "Hey, Handsome!" Though the young man I knew was good-looking.

I prefer Beau and as a nn for Robert.

I like Beau for a boy, especially given the meaning/origin and Bo for a girl. I don’t mind either as a full name, but I’d more expect Bo to be a nn for a girl. I don’t really have favourite full names for Beau/Bo. Maybe Beatrix Margot or Beatrix Clio nn Bo for a girl. I think I only like Beau in full for a boy.

I think it's ridiculous as a full name, and only slightly better as a nickname. I have never met a Bo/Beau whose name actually related to the nickname, it seems to be more along the lines of Bud, Red, etc.

IMO, Bo looks incomplete by itself. As a nn for Robert, it's fine. OTOH, Beau is fine by itself. Between the two, I prefer Beau which I like the way it is. No need to pull out Beauregard. ;-)

They are two very different names to me. Bo is Scandinavian, an old traditional name whereas Beau is youthful, modern and faux-French.
Both are full names in my opinion (and most definitely male).

Beau for a boy and Bo for a girl. It works as a full name, though Bo for a girl is pushing it for its shortness. I have met a female Bo and she pulled it off just fine.
