Help[Opinions] Japanese names - your favorites
Please give me your favorite Japanese names and tell me why you like them and which meaning they have. Also tell me which meaning you prefer (for the ones that have several, and if you prefer them spelled in kanji, hiragana etc.).
Mine are Akari and Kaede for girls and Aoi for boys (I know it is more popular for girls in Japan).
I love Akari spelled with the kanji for "red" and "white jasmine". I love white jasmine and flowers in general as well as the color red. I think the meaning together is so interesting because it combines two colors and a flower and gives me a really pretty image. I like Aoi mainly for the color meaning and would spell it with that kanji. I love Kaede because it means "maple". Autumn is my favorite season and the imagery is so nice. Another favorite is Aiko for a girl (love and child) and Aya (colors). I always thought Midori (green) and Mika (beautiful and fragrance) were pretty too.
I love the look of Saori spelled in kanji, but from the sound alone it is not my favorite unfortunately.

I don't read Japanese (or speak it), so I don't have a lot of knowledge of Japanese names outside of the names in this database (which doesn't seem like it's at all comprehensive). I love all the nature meanings, sometimes more than I like the sound of the name itself.

Thanks! I love the meaning of Keiko too. Unfortunately I don't really care for the sound.

Suzume (雀-'sparrow') -one of my absolute favorites because of it's meaning ('suzu' can also mean bell, 鈴), I just think it's so cute
Yanagi (柳-'willow') -I love willow trees and this name totally captures the vibe of one; so soft and elegant
Hiiragi (柊-'holly osmanthus') -a regal name, I fell in love with it because of the character from Natsume Yuujinchou; also love that the kanji is made up of the characters 'tree' and 'winter'
Yuzuru (弦-'bowstring') -a youthful name I've considered for a sibset with Suzume, I like how 'yuzu' can also mean the citrus fruit
Kotobuki (寿-'longevity') -I'm absolutely fascinated by this name, despite it's uncommon usage
Ayame (菖蒲-'iris') -I like how serious it sounds, combined with the beautiful flower meaning
Shino (信乃-'trust';'possessive particle') -makes me think of a peppy and fun-loving individual, what's not to like?
Anju (杏樹-'apricot';'timber trees') -love the apricot meaning and how international it is; a name I also got from a character
Shungiku (春菊-'garland chrysanthemum') -for some reason I love names that end in -giku (chrysanthemum), like Rangiku as well
And of course Kaede as well ;)

Riku (凌空-'to endure';'sky') -love love love how this name rolls off my tongue, it's adorable
Makoto (誠-'sincerity') -a youthful unisex name that I've always liked, despite it's old-school feel
Natsu (夏-'summer') -I don't like Summer as a name in English, but it's so cute and refreshing in Japanese!
Rin (梨-'pear tree' or 燐-'phosphorus'(male); 鈴-'bell'(female)) -I just love this name all around, so much cuteness in such a small package
Kanata (空-'sky') -it has such a light meaning and cute sound, it's lovely
