[Opinions] Montserrat vs Montse
I've always liked the meaning and the sound of Montserrat but if I'm really honest it's because I love the nn Montse (pr. MON-sə or monz) What do you think of the names Montserrat and Montse?
Do you think Montse stands as its own name? Not too informal?I'm considering them for a fn or mn.eta my poll on Montse vs Montserrat: https://www.behindthename.com/polls/324004

I'm not a fan of either name. I prefer Montse over Montserrat, but...I know a Montserrat nn Montse, so I can't think of Montse as a standalone name. I would assume her full name is Montserrat. This might not be the case if you live in an area where Montserrat is not a well-known name. Where I live I don't think anyone would see "Montse" and think "that's a nickname."

Slightly OT, but...Can I just say that I love your username? Because I do - I think Amparo is gorgeous! Is it your actual name (if you don't mind my asking)? There is a large Hispanic community where I live, but I've never encountered an Amparo in real life (though I have come across a couple Montserrats).

Thank you, you made my day! I have seen your comment on the name Amparo! It is not my actual name. "Amparo" is a reference to a family surname that I love (only two letters off and derived from the word)Even more OT: Your username always reminds me of the plant "yerba mate" www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yerba_mate

I was also thinking since its not a popular name where I live, that many wouldn't know its often a nickname. Also considering it for a middle name.
I also would like to echo that I am really liking your username Amparo. I like the meaning and that it sounds like "power" to me.

I thought I liked Montserrat until I read the prn. on this site. The emphasis on RAT doesn't do anything for me.There's a character on a Netflix show whose name is Monse, pronounced like Montse, and I've watched the show so I'm familiar enough with it as a given name that I can see Montse as standing alone.

The "rat" is a little hard to get over, but I have heard it pronounced with a softer "t" sound or even more of an "ah" at the end.

I love Montserrat! I pronounce it Mon-se-Rah. Montse makes perfect sense as a nickname for Montserrat, pronounced either Mon-zay or monz. It could work for either sex but would be better on a girl.

Sorry I don't like either

I actually like the sound of Montserrat (and have even come across a couple in real life). But... I keep seeing "monster rat" in this spelling. For this reason I prefer the spelling Monserrat (which I have not come across in real life).Don't know what to think of Montse, though. As a nickname it makes sense. It's just so unlike what I'm accustomed to. I'm pronouncing it MON-sə as I think that sounds more attractive.

It's hard to unsee "monster rat". Yikes! Did the real life Montserrat s have a hard "t" at the end?
