Help[Opinions] Aurelia and Aureliana
Which do you prefer? Is Aureliana too long to be used in a real name?
I always say the Au in these names as "aw" (like the beginning of August or Audrey), but the database says it should be "ow" (like 'cow'). How do you say it?
The database is also confusing me with the E. It says "EH" as in 'bet', but it also lists 'care'. Wouldn't the sound in care be AY, not EH? And is it common to use the AY sound in Aurelia ("rail ya"??) or just the EH (el-ee-a)?
Any combos you like with Aurelia or Aureliana as the first or middle name?

So Aurelia/Aurelian is a family name on my husband's side of the family. Several generations bear some form of the name. We pronounce it Ah-ree-lee-ah. Aureliana seems a little over the top but it's usable.

I like Aureliana. I also like Silviana, Octaviana, Viviana, and Verdiana. I'm sure they look overwrought to some people, but I like that about them.
Aurelia is more down-to-earth seeming...or about as austere / dressed-down as an otherwise princessy seeming name can be. I like that about it, too.
I say 'aw' or 'ah' (which seem very similar to me) when I see Au.
The vowel sounds in rail and care and bet are all close to me (or likely when I say care, it's a combination of ay and eh), so I'm confused either way.
I've never heard anyone say Aurelia as if it rhymes with Azalea, which is what the rail pronunciation would seem like? I've heard it like ehl or eel, not ail.

I pronounce it ow-REL-ee-a. The "eh" sound seems correct, at least in my accent, care is said something like KEH-eh, with the second "eh" being in between an e and a schwa. I've never heard Aurelia said as aw-rail-ya, which would be very unfortunate indeed.

Man is Aureliana hard for me to say.
The way I pronounce them is closer to "Aw" like August and Audrey, not "Ow" like Cow. However I'm imagining these with American accents different from my own and I feel the "Aw" is more of a softer "Or", even with August and Audrey. Autumn, for example, sounds closer to "our-tom" than "aw-tum" so Aurelia is more like "our-ree-lee-ah"
Also the "aw-rail-ya" suggestion with the "Aw" and the "Ay" sounds bloody awful. The "Eh" suggestion isn't much better honestly
So long as its "our-ree-lee-ah" I love Aurelia.
