[Opinions] Isola
What do you think of Isola? I know this is the Italian word for "island," but it may also be a variant of Isolde, so I wouldn't deem it an illegitimate (personal) name. I'm quite charmed by it! It was the name of Oscar Wilde's sister, who died of meningitis. Here are some combos I like:Isola Beatrice
Isola Benedetta
Isola Betony
Isola Bibiana
Isola Brynhild
Isola Bryony
Isola Caterina
Isola Daphne
Isola Dorothea / Dorothy
Isola Enrichetta
Isola Federica / Frederica
Isola Ferdinanda
Isola Fiammetta
Isola Genevieve
Isola Gertrude
Isola Ginevra
Isola Gwendolen
Isola Harriet
Isola Maddalena
Isola Margarita / Margery / Marguerite
Isola Maurizia
Isola Minerva
Isola Muriel
Isola Nimue
Isola Patrizia
Isola Raffaella / Raphaela
Isola Sabina
Isola Symphorosa
Isola Tacita
Isola Tatiana
Isola Teresa
Isola Tryphena
Isola Varinia
Isola Verity
Isola Viviana
Isola Winifred

I guess it works in an English speaking context but as an Italian born and bred I can’t get past the “island “ meaning. Isolina has a history of usage and so as Ghisola.

I made a post about Isola over a year ago: https://www.behindthename.com/bb/baby/5095866
Oscar Wilde also dedicated a poem to her, "Requiescat":
Tread lightly, she is near
Under the snow,
Speak gently, she can hear
The daisies grow. All her bright golden hair
Tarnished with rust,
She that was young and fair
Fallen to dust.Lily-like, white as snow,
She hardly knew
She was a woman, so
Sweetly she grew.Coffin-board, heavy stone,
Lie on her breast,
I vex my heart alone
She is at rest.Peace, Peace, she cannot hear
Lyre or sonnet,
All my life’s buried here,
Heap earth upon it.
I like it due to the association, but it's a tricky name - I don't know how to pronounce it and it feels like a place name more so than a person's name.

I like it BECAUSE of the "isolation" thing. It's terribly Romantic. Also the "sol" part makes me think of souls and suns, which is wonderfully poetic. This name is almost campy because it's so laden with reference and it's so serious, and that really appeals to me. It also makes me think of a lighter version of Ursula.Of your combos I liked Isola Sabina (although I think I'd prefer Isola Sabine), Isola Nimue (wow, love this one), Isola Gwendolen, and Isola Muriel. I also like the idea of Isola Sulamith and Isola Semiramis. Also purely in GP territory Isola Medusa seems gorgeously Goth. I genuinely love the name Medusa and never get a chance to use it! I should call a cat Medusa.

I like it, but everyone will just say you got it from Guernsey. I’m
more of a fan of Isis. I can’t avoid “isolated” in my head. It doesn’t feel modern enough for me.

I don't like it. It just reminds me of isolation. I don't see the appeal. I prefer Isla, even if it is currently trendy.
