What would you think if you met a kid named Gable?

I'd wince inwardly. It's just not a name to me any more than Chimney or Shingle would be. I'd wonder if his parents watched old movies late at night at their grandparents' house growing up, or if the mother was stuk on Anne of Green Gables.

My first thought would be that they were Southern and it was a family surname.
