Erasmus is neat. It is like an old scholar pouring over tomes of forgotten lore. The Dutch philosopher is my top association. I would love to meet someone with this name.

I prefer Nereus as a middle name. It is tied to the ocean and sounds old. Soundwise, it seems like it would work best with something going before it like Simon Nereus or Ptolemy Nereus.

They're interesting names, but I hate saying both.
Of other versions, Rasmus seems slightly better, Nereo is okay, and I'd love Elmo if not for Sesame Street.

I'd prefer Erasmus, though not enough to consider using it IRL. It's surprisingly common among Afrikaans-speaking South Africans, and shortens to Rassie, with the a sounding like an uh. Nereus does nothing for me, and the -reus element would lead to pronunciation problems in South Africa, where it would sound rather like REEuhs, which means 'giant'.

I adore them both, Erasmus for the longest of time, and, Nereus, only for a couple of years. :)

Erasmus is definitely suave, but also dastardly sounding. It's got a Lex Luthor vibe.
