Carlo and Sergio are my favorites.

I like Giovanni, Antonio and Oscar

Enrico: I'm opposed to Eric in all its forms.
Luigi: tragically, it is now bound to Mario's brother.
Giovanni: one of these names that must be boring to Italian speakers but seem so romantic to me.
Antonio: as above, with the added bonus of being Shakespearean.
Giuseppe: not very attractive. JOO is a sound I love in some names and hate in others.
Sandro: how sad and limp compared to its full form.
Francesco: same as Giovanni and Antonio, but more lively and friendly.
Oscar: do I find Oscar attractive? Not in the least. But I like its association with Oscar Wilde very much.
Carlo Azeglio: Carlo is dull. I dislike the glio sound in Azeglio.
Giorgio: all forms of George are stodgy.
Sergio: all forms of Sergei, on the other hand, feel so Russian to me, even if they're not used in Russia! I remember meeting a Sergiusz, which is used exclusively by Polish people, and wondering if he was of Russian heritage, especially since his sister's name was Natasza.

I looked up Pertini and indeed his full name was Alessandro, though he was always known as Sandro.
