[Opinions] Susannah
what do you think of Susannah as a slightly more ancient alternative for the granny name Susan? and do you think Shoshana could also get some usage outside of jewish communities?

I like Susannah a lot and prefer this spelling. If I had a Susannah I’d call her Sunny or Sanna(h). Shoshana is also lovely but I don’t really see it getting wider appeal.

I like Shoshana, but I've never considered it because Susannah is a family name. I would use it as a mn; my favourite form of it is Suzanne, which I might have used as a fn but for the Susannah connection.

Echoing the love for Susanna (particularly without the h). It’s on my long list for my current pregnancy. I like Shoshana and, as a person with Jewish heritage, could maybe get away with using it but I don’t think I would. Not because I necessarily think it should be off limits to anyone Jewish or otherwise, but just because I would feel like I was “going for” something rather than naming my child authentically—if such a thing is possible.

I love it a lot, though I am biased as it has sentimental value to me. It’s so elegant but cosy-feeling at the time. I like Shoshana a lot too, but as a gentile I’m not sure whether it would be appropriate for me to use. It is lovely, though.

I've loved Susannah for a long time. If I had a daughter, she'd be Susannah. I just think it's beautiful. It's more than the sum of its parts for some reason. It's much more beautiful than Susan, though I do like Susan. And while I love Anna, Susannah is more interesting and more elegant. I'm sure Shoshana could get usage outside of Jewish communities but I for one really dislike it. What an unpleasant sound.

I love Susanna, but spelt without the H. And although as a Hebrew speaker I love Shoshana, I don’t think it would be used outside the Jewish community.

I don't know how I feel about Shoshana in use in wider context. I think it's a beautiful name, but a name with such specific association seems potentially troublesome.I actually don't dislike Susan. I do sometimes think Susanna / Susannah is a bit too busy, but I think it's lovely - usually, at least. I've always thought Susannah Eleanor, nickname Sue Ellen, might be pretty.

In Gone with the Wind, Scarlett has a sister named Susan Elinor who goes by Suellen. I've always liked it too.

I love it, it’s one of my favourite girls names. I prefer the Susanna spelling though.

I actually really love Susanna. Susannah is also good about I’m not crazy about that spelling. Shoshana is also very nice. Susanna is very pretty, and reminds me of spring days.
