I like Tamara. It sounds distinguished and old-fashioned in an enterprising, non-aloof way like someone who is into herbs and urban gardening. I like Mara as a nickname for Tamara but prefer it in full. I dislike Tammy. The is something spammy about Tammy like someone who sends emails about their latest multilevel marketing pursuit. Tamsin is one of my favorite names right now, but it doesn't have any nicknames that I could live with hearing on a regular basis.

I like Tamara and Tamora, but not Tammy.
The only Tammys I've met were just Tammy, not short for anything.

I had a goat called Tammy when I was a child so that’s my first association. Other than that it’s too nicknamey and unappealing on a human. Tamara is ok (on a tangent I prefer Samara). Overall, I think Tamar itself is the most interesting name.

Tamara is one of those names that I either love because it's super-classy with a downmarket nickname, or hate because it's super classy with a downmarket nickname. Today, it's love. I also think "Tam" as a nickname is very chic, if Tammy is too infantile or silly for some. I've never seen Tammy used independently, but I can see its appeal for some.

Tammy is too mid-20th century right now. very 50 to 70-year-old woman here. Tamara feels less dated to me and a bit more timeless. The Tamara I know (that is in her 50s actually) uses Mara occasionally as the diminutive of choice over Tammy. I think I prefer it a tiny bit.

I usually favour using the long or formal version of a name as a courtesy to the bearer, who will have more opportunities for nns etc in later life. This is certainly the case with Tamara, as opposed to the infantile Tammy.

They’re both very pretty names. I prefer Tamara with the nickname Tammy, though.

I like Tamara, but Tammy sounds a bit dull. I like it better as a nickname than as a legal name.

I like them both
