Overall Samantha, Samara reminds me of The Ring.

I dislike Sam as a nn under all circumstances. Samara could shorten to Mara, which isn't bad, so I suppose it's the better of the two, but IRL I wouldn't consider either and I'd be surprised to meet a young Samantha: it seems very datedl

Samara. Not because of the horror movie association which it is so heavily tied to, but because I think it sounds far prettier. Samantha is fine, but lifeless and dull as others have pointed out. Also I've had really bad experiences with the name, which hinders me from truly liking it. I respect it as a classic and that's it.

Samantha has no mystery to it, where as Samara is intriguing, it is more elegant but at the same time spunky as well. Samantha has some arrogance or whiney tone about it.
