I think an old school friend of mine named her sons exactly this, they are also around 4 years old. This duo is the name equivalent of greige siding on a suburban McMansion. Does Carter have a different sort of association in the UK? It's so yuppie boring to me.Louis and Lottie are fun!

Carter and Grayson sound like a midrange accountancy firm. Lottie is terrible as a stand alone, if indeed it is, no options. Louis is okay.
I do know guy in this situation, sort of, his oldest brother's son is a year older than he is.

They're nephew and uncle? Huh, that brings to mind my aunt's oldest grandchild and her youngest child (a cousin of mine) Although they didn't start school together, they was always only a year difference between them. Strange concept; an aunt and niece running around together, playing. Then there was my second oldest cousin who was older by only 4-5 years. But the niece and her two aunts all went to school together. I also knew a guy from school who's uncle and him were both in the same grade. (So they did actually start school together)
With all that said, I like Carter (not enough to use it however-not that it's really useable for me anyhow) Dislike Grayson (Just never saw the appeal.) Lottie is nice (only as a nn), but if I ever see another alliterative set of names for twins, I think my head will implode.

I've kind of been warming up to the sound of Grayson, but I don't care for it. Nor, do I like Carter and Louis; I much prefer the spelling Lewis to Louis, one of my favorite boy names. Lottie is pretty, though; it does pair well with Louis, no matter my naming preferences (and their set doesn't sound bad with Carter, either).
