Both names have lovely meanings. I like Carys, but Dilys is an unappealing combo of sounds (who wants Dil or Dilly as a nickname?).

They're alright.
Carys reads as "care-iss" to me, and I have to remind myself it's "cahr-iss," and then I think oh, it sounds a little too much like "caress." That's the main reason I'm not attracted to it. But I think I would like it fine, as the name of someone I met.
Dilys is nifty. Seems to have an old-fashioned feminine sharpness. I like how the -ys ending looks. It also seems to me like it's free of trendy-style appeal, but also doesn't sound dated, and that makes it seem more interesting.

I like Dilys because it's a bit ugly and awkward, it's eccentric. I love the idea of a lady named "Dilly".Carys never did anything for me, I think it's too pretty and limp, a pleasant but empty blankness that makes me itchy. I'll add it to my Uncanny Valley list.

I've always liked both of these, especially Dilys, just enough off center to be interesting.

I love Carys but not Dilys.
