I find Dawn plain and kinda bland, but otherwise a decent-enough name, albeit dated and reminiscent of the time of day and of Dawn dish detergent.
It's just one of those names I'll always be neutral on, find it neither terrible or remarkable. I like Sydney, but prefer Sidney better. I think the former could work, but the latter is better.

I don't enjoy Dawn. It seems sentimental and flimsy. Sydney to me is an Australian city; I don't mind Sidney at all as a male name. It was the name of my father's eldest brother, so that adds to its importance to me.

I don't really like either

I prefer Sydney on a girl, but I don't love it for either. It sounds a bit whiny to me.
Dawn is meh. I don't like the vowel sound; it reminds me of "yawn".

I like both. And I prefer the spelling Sydney.

I'm okay with Dawn, but it does sound like 'Don' which I don't like. I would prefer it as a middle name. I've never been huge on Sydney, though I prefer it for a girl.

I only like Dawn as a middle name. I cannot really picture Sydney as a masculine name. Sidney is better.

Agreed

They both seem terribly dated to me. Also to my ears they both sound masculine, ie best suited for a man as you said. Dawn because of Don (🤢) and Sydney because it was originally a man’s name.

I've known two Dawns in the past so it's not a name that I like.I like Sidney (with an "i") for a male and I would leave the Sydney spelling for a female.
