Help[Opinions] Darko.
Just worked with a Director of Photography named Darko. I'd never heard the name before, but I think it's really cool. WDYT?

The name is Croatian. It has something to it.

I have come across someone with this name before. For some reason I think it is Yugoslavian or something like that?? I think it also might be a shortened form. Sorry, I'm not much help but I have heard/seen it before.

I've never seen it, but my mind immediately jumps to Donnie Darko.
It has a neat sound, but the next thing I think of is "darkies," aka black people. You know how commies are pinkos? It's like pinkos and darkies combined. :(
I don't think I'd ever want to consider it myself.

Darkies?!
I've never heard that expression. Nasty. NO offense meant, but it sounds like an American-made expression and I hope I never hear it in conversation.
Also, don't know the movie, but the man I met who beheld the name was lovely, so the name has only good assoc. for me.

I know--it's considered /very/ offensive.
It's also not used nowadays--and it's certainly not one I'd ever say. I hope I haven't given the impression that I condone it in any way, because I don't.

Go and read Little Town on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder, though. They have a minstrel show one winter in which people of the town (including her Pa) dress up as darkies (her wording) and sing and dance. It's a word with history, and I think it's a legitimate association to have with the name Darko (if not a pleasant one), which is why I brought it up.

I can't say that I like it. I mean it could be worse, but I still don't like it. It has the same feel as Drake and I dislike this name as well.
