I prefer Lilah, because as well as being an alternative spelling for Lila, it's also an alternative transliteration of lilach / lilakh, the Hebrew word for lilac. If I was to use Lilah, it would be to honour my great-grandmother, who was christened Agnes Jessica Patricia but hated all three names and went by the nickname of Lilac for most of her life.

I prefer simpler names, because I'm quite simple. Nora instead of Norah, Liora instead of Liorah, Alexandra instead of Alexandria. I just don't like frilly names.

If I must choose, Lila. I come from a consciously anti-H family--my mother, who is a Teresa, named my sister Sara on purpose--and thus tend to prefer names without.

I prefer Lila, as I think Lilah just complicates the name and it isn't needed. It's such a pretty name, you don't need the h.

I would have to say Lila...i don't know why...but Lilah is different..Lila is a pretty spelling with out the 'h'

While I don't particularly like both, Lilah feels to me like it has a breath on the end of it. Sarah, Norah, and whatever else don't seem to, but this does. And it bugs me. :-/

To me, the h in the end really matters; I love the name Lilah, whereas I don't care much for Lila. I don't have the same problem with other similar names, like Dina/Dinah, Nora/Norah, or Sara/Sarah.

Lila has always seemed rather dull to me. It's not a hideously ugly name or anything, but I've just never seen any appeal in it because it somehow seems very plain. I think adding the h in the end makes the spelling look more complete, which totally changes my opinion of the name. Lilah is a lovely, melodic, soft name, and just utterly gorgeous.

Huh. I like Lila for the same reason Chrisell likes Lilah. I like the idea of it coming from lilac as well as meaning night, but I don't like the idea of it being short for Delilah. Lila is in our top five for baby girl #2.

Lila also has a greater possibility of being mispronounced as LEE-la.

Lila just looks more "correct" to me. The H on the end seems unnecessary and though she'd always be correcting people--'no, it has an H on the end'--but maybe that's because I'm used to seeing it as Lila, and not Lilah, more often IRL. Also, Lilah looks related to or like a nn for Delilah, which while the name sounds nice, not the best Biblical role model. :b
