[Opinions] George?
DH has told me that he really likes this name (gasp)... and also that he hates Sebastian, one of my favorites. I think I might have to cross Sebastian off my list if I want him to relinquish a fave too.Wdyt of George for a boy?

George is in my Top 5. It's quite popular here in England though- #18, but in other places it seems to be considered old-fashioned. I really like it.

I don't like George very much; between our president and the character Curious George, it's kind of turned into a monkey's name for me. It's saving grace for me is that I love the nickname Geordie. I"d have to say that I find some of its female variants quite pretty, too, particularly Georgeanne and Georgia.

Ruined at the moment by a certain head of state and his pa... aside from that, I've always thought it sounds dorky. Sorry.- mirfak

If you really dislike it so much, then the easy way to get rid of it is to invoke the "we both have to love the name" rule. As you've noted, that makes Sebastian a non-contender too. But really, don't you think you both *should* love the name? Aren't there scads of other terrific names out there waiting to find a home in your lives? Hmm?Personally, I like the name George. Not enough to name my ds George, so I would use a veto too. But I do like the name. Sebastian is wonderful. Pity.

It sounds too old-fashioned for me.

I like Sebastian better than George, but they're both dignified names. Have you considered combining them? Sebastian George or George Sebastian? Actually, I like Sebastian George better, but just a personal pref.

I like George...and love Sebastian.Oh no! Sebastian is a wonderful name. I prefer it to George, but I do like George as well. What about a mn? Maybe you could compromise with George Sebastian, which actually flows pretty well IMO.

agree...George Sebastian is niceSebastian George works too but a bit more abrupt ending.I like both names and think they have great nn with Georgie and Seb.my husband and I have different name styles as well. why can't we just name them? we have to birth them. I know it's not fair and bla, bla, bla but it would be so much easier. :]good luck.Luxiana

Hahaha- that might have to be the last resort.

haha :) I completely agree with that!!Mothers should have the naming rights, after all the children get the father's last name (traditionally).

I really like it. I've been considering it lately.

I think it's one of the few traditional male names that I like. George is so simple and strong. Plus, it's not as popular as it used to be, so there won't be a million of them in his class (just a couple!).
