[Opinions] Boston
Lately Boston (the city) has been inspiration to songwriters (Augustana- All The Stars And Boulevards cd, Ryanhood- On the Radio cd and some other band who I can't remember). Anyway, hearing Boston all of the time made me think "Hey, what a great name that would be!" But then again maybe not. WDYT?

I live near Boston, and while it's a great city, I absolutely don't like it for a name. Boy or girl. Just. No.

I think of two thingsI think of the 1950s show featuring the detective Boston Blackie, and his name sake, my dog.I honestly donb't think it would work for a non-fictional human. Sorry

It seems a little too rock and roll and sort of trying too hard. Maybe because I think of the band called Boston. The Jack Russell dog next door is named Boston. It's not awful for a child, though I wouldn't use it because it strikes me as pretentious for some reason.

Don't forget the band 'Boston'! Then again I dont know how old you are & they are old. Then again I am only 13 and they are one of my favorites. Please dont. Its tryndeigh.. Very. Its not even all that nice sounding. But if you insist on using it- it would be terrible on a girl. Don't force the kid to wear red colored socks to school every day. Dont spell it Bostyn, Bahstyn, Bawstin or anything alond those lines.

I don't know if you know this, but the city Boston in the States was named after a small market town in Lincolnshire, England. This town now bears the dubious honour of being the "fattest" town in the UK. It also has very high rates of drug use, particularly heroin and teenage pregnancy. It is one of the most deprived postcodes (zip codes) in the country. I know this because I lived there. I couldn't name a child Boston because of the above. Maybe where you live people will not think of these things, but I thought I should tell you what Boston brings to mind for me.

I don't think those things deter people. A good case in point is the name Chelsea. Chelsea is a very crime-ridden and undesirable area near Boston (USA) and yet people still name their daughter's this.

Thanks!Thank you all. I will continue thinking about it.

Since I'm not a fan of the place name trend (Dakota, Montana, Dallas, etc.), I'm not a fan of the name. However, I think it's as acceptable as those mentioned, especially as a middle name IMO. Besides, many -ton place names have been used for given names, Winston, Ashton, Washington, etc., although most were in honor of surnames.

I love it but [m]for a girl only.

Definitely not mNot just maybe not! It's so tryndee and annoying, like Dakota and London. Even if you love the Red Sox (baseball) like I do, there are better ways to honor it for you child. Me, I'll be shopping here: http://www.chowdaheadz.com/babyitems.html :)I know that's not your point, but seriously, there is no reason good enough to give Boston as a name: music, baseball, or otherwise.
