[Facts] Submitting Leowin
The name Leowin came to me for my daughter. Sure it comes from Lionel Winston my own givens, but it has a good
Anglosaxon form, in fact occurs 3 times in the Domesday book with the Norman spelling Leouuin. Probably used for
males in that case but many AS names were used by both sexes. It is also Low Germanic Leuw + fem. suff. +in, meaning
straight-out Lioness rather than Lion-Joy or Lion-Friend whichever. So multipurpose ideal for August children or those of
other Lionels, Leonards, Leonas, Leonies &c. When I told my daughter of its origins and that in 1000 AD it was
probably pronounced more like Lay-o-win, she adopted that, and is still known that way by her high-school, university,
& medical colleagues.oy like it, please use it!
