It's the "I just wanted to make sure" that's the problem - Why does it *matter*?
And just because a lot of people ask the same question doesn't legitimize it. That's like if a lot of people ask if they can go to the bathroom on my front lawn, should I ever concede to it. Because, you know, if a lot of people are asking then there's got to be something to it. No, no there doesn't. It's still a stupid question (or in this case, it's still a question that belies a negative opinion.)
