[Opinions] Salem and Arachne?
I've recently taken a liking to the names Salem and Arachne. Now I know that Arachne is unusable, so I will have to make it a character in my book. However, what about Salem? What do you think? Is it usable? Does it even sound good?

I know a Salem. He is from Syria. It is quite a common Arabic name. It is pronounced "Sal-EM" or "Sal-um".

I like them both, but I don't think I'd really use them. I like Salem on a boy (Salem Thomas), and I just like Arachne. I've never given thought to a mn because I don't think it's too usable.

I would say no to bothArachne makes me think of spiders--and would a little girl REALLY want to be associated with spiders?Salem makes me think of the cigarettes, and also reminds me of the Turkish greeting. Salem is a plausible name, in a way...I like Salim much better, although I don't think it has the same meaning.

*Love* Salem for a boy. Nice name.

In my opinion they're both unusable on real humans. Salem makes me think of witches and Arachne of spiders.

Salem is the name of my six-year-old black cat so that's all it makes me think of. Arachne is definitely nms, but I suppose it can be used.

Salem, no; Arachne, yesArachne is lovely and has great history.Salem is always the witch's cat because ohmigawsh, it's so like gothik. :PI'd rather see Arachne on a human than Salem. On a character, Salem is way overdone.

I love Arachne, and I don't think it's unusable--especially if it's a middle name.Salem strikes me as masculine more than feminine, but either way, it feels really trendy.Array

Both seem like names a goth teenager would name her child born of an unfortunate teenage pregnancy.Or her cat.

I love both, and yes Salem is usable. There are other towns named Salem other then the one in Mass.

Arachne makes me shiver (I hate spiders, lol), so I agree that it would be better as a character. Besides the witch trials association, Salem reminds me of the cat in Sabrina the Teenage Witch (and I don't even watch that show). I don't really think it's usable either.
