He sounds a wonderfully interesting character; I'd love to read about him.

My vote is with Finn. I agree with Calla that Howl is associated too closely with Diana Wynne Jones's novel to be used, and there's a certain childlike quality to the name Finn that would suit your character very well, from the sounds of things
