We have a law where a mom can 'abandon' an unwanted child at the hospital or a firehouse without any questions being asked. The child is then put up for adoption. I think some other states have a form of it, so if their mother drops them off at a place that is designated as a safeplace for this, there wouldn't be a search for the parents.
