I've been watching a TV documentary Who do you think you are? and there are always some great unusual names that pop up in it. Here are today's sightings:

FEMALE:

Alvenia (UK)
Angiola (Italy)
Liberata (Spain)

MALE:

Dionisio (Italy)
Terzilio (Italy)
Sawney, also spelled Sauney (African American)
Delaware (African American, b. 1894)
Ildefonso (Spain)
Pelayo (Spain)

Unsure of gender:

I like Liberata and Dionisio.

Sawney and Delaware on African Americans makes it sound like they are slaves. I'm not kidding - some plantation masters would give their slaves bizarre names.

Ildefonso and Pelayo? I'm willing to bet this is medieval Spanish.

Sawney was born in 1894 and Delaware in 18th century, so if not slaves, definitely children of slaves.
Ildefonso was beginning of 20th century actually and Pelayo 17th or 18th century.
