I prefer it stand-alone and don't think it's too cutesy for an adult at all. In fact, I love it. I have two friends with daughters named Josie. One's given name is Josie, one is Josephine but she is always called Josie. 1) I don't care for the name Josephine, way too frumpy and stodgy. 2) If you are NEVER going to be called Josephine EVER, why do parents bother with it as the formal name? Just use Josie! Some names need a more formal name to me (Katie for instance, don't like that one as a given name) but Josie is just fine on it's own.
