Feldner Bettlerbub Dionysus
@ Kinga:I'm sorry if I overstep, but I just googled Feldner Bettlerbub Dionysus.
It was the "Bettlerbub" that made me suspicious because it literally means "beggar boy", so I thought it might have been his profession rather than his name.
Turns out it was ;)
Plus, he was from Salzburg, Austria, and "down south" people tended - and still sometimes do - to refer to you by your family name first and only then mention your given name. (So let's say your name is Johannes Müller. You'd then be referred to as Müller Johannes or even Müllers Johannes.)
That's what happened here.So long story short:
This guy's name was actually Dionysus Feldner and Bettlerbub (beggar boy) was his profession.
By the way, apparently he was only 12 when he died. And with him 39 others aged between 10 and 14. Sad.
Oops, wrong spot. Sorry.

Oh no, not overstepping at all! Thank you for chiming in! I got the names from scanning Wikipedia articles so I'm not surprised things got a bit muddled. I never even suspected Bettlerbub was a profession name!Yeah, the whole witch craze was full of horrible sad stories like that one. I read in one article that things got so bad in some places, several villages were left with only one or two female inhabitants after it was all over. Not even children, or even babies, were spared. One girl was tortured and killed simply because her father, a suspected sorcerer, had raped her. Another woman was burned alive despite being pregnant: they decided it was "the devil's child", because she had been married 14 years thus far without any children. So awful.
