I was talking to a 9 year old yesterday...
I've posted her family before, her name's Xalia and she has two brothers- Xander and Xayden. Yesterday she was saying that when she grows up she only wants one daughter whom she is going to call Amethyst May "Amee". May is her middle name, her mum's middle name, her grandmother's middle name and so on. She said that if she had any more daughters, she'd probably name them after gems as well.Although her style isn't my taste, I thought I'd share because she is a child after our own hearts =)

Lol, little Xalia will be posting here someday. Amethyst is lovely and paired with May is so cute. I don't like Amee, though. If it's prn like Amy, it's a bit dated. I would prefer Ammie (AM-ee).

No, she isn't. I hate Amethyst. Better off just calling her Amee, or Amy.

Amethyst May is quite lovely.

I think her style is closer to mine than her mother's. Amethyst is better than Xayden and Xalia.

Doing a gem-theme naming for your daughters sounds so creative! I actually wrote a story where the main character, a boy named Zeke, had 10 sisters, each one named for a gem (the reason behind this was because their mother owned and ran a jewelry store). From oldest to youngest, they were Amethyst, Emerald, Diamond, Sapphire, Ruby, Opal, Pearl, Topaz, Jade, and Beryl (formerly Peridot). Amethyst, Diamond, and Emerald made up a set of triplets, while Sapphire and Ruby as well as Topaz and Jade were twins. All the girls' middle name were for flowers (Amethyst Rose, Opal Lavender, Pearl Violet, etc.).

Pretty. I actually do really like Amethyst as a name. I don't know, it just seems very stunning and melodic. Almost airy, if that makes any sense. It's strange, since I normally find names like this (Crystal, Diamond, Emerald, etc.) to be clunky-sounding and just generally very unappealing as formal names. Amethyst, however, is...different. Almost breathtaking in its beauty. I don't know, maybe I'll feel differently this time next week (my name taste can fluctuate), but as of right now, I find it unexplainably gorgeous. As for the combo, Amethyst May is sweet, and the nickname Amee is spunky and quirky. Nice. I do find the idea of making the gem thing a theme not much to my liking, as I find it somewhat tacky, but it's workable, I suppose. Overall, the name is a good one, in my opinion. Of course, though, she's nine; the name's susceptible to be greatly altered in the near future.

I love how you've described Amethyst. I feel the same way. :)

I like the jewel and its color, but the word amethyst is so lispy and doesn't slide off the tongue easily. I much prefer Opal, Ruby or even Diamond to Amethyst.
Oh well, she's nine and by next year she'll probably have thought of something else.

I like Opal, though I'm always pronouncing it "Opul", which would be annoying to a person having the name. Diamond is a good name, very rarely used, I think.
Topaz! That's pretty. I wouldn't call a daughter of mine that, as our last name is 4 syllables and all vowells, and thus needs a plain-ish name.Which our 3 kids got.

I once knew a male Diamond. He was a college classmate and friend of my husband's. I still remember his surname, and it was ethnic, but I can't determine which country it came from. Anyway, figuring his parents were immigrants or the children of immigrants, which is more common in NYC, where my husband attended college, than in other parts of the country, and that perhaps Diamond was a not unusual male name where they originated.

You know, I really like Amethyst May "Amee". Amy is nice but has become a bit boring through overuse, so if it's Amee as a nickname for Amethyst, that adds some interest. I like Amethyst as a name, I really do.
