Oh, it's kind of odd, but doesn't bother me much.
I have a young cousin named Kansas. And I had neighbours in Australia who had a daughter named Tennessee.These people were New Zealanders,though, and perhaps the U.S. seemed far away and exotic.The western states tend to be the namey ones. And not the Canadian provinces, except the ones that contain names already. Prince EDWARD Island.And Alberta, I think was named for Prince Albert.

"perhaps the U.S. seemed far away and exotic."I think this is true of Americans naming their kids, too. London, Holland, and Zaire all rank next to Brooklyn, Dallas, and Dakota.
