New Here and Looking for Advice and Help on a Name for Baby #2
Hello to everyone! I'm 19 weeks pregnant and expecting my second child with a due date of December 8th, at my ultra sound last Friday I found out the sex of the baby. Which I'm so happy to say is another little boy. I have a four year old (he just had a birthday on June 12) who has asked for brother consistently since last Hallowe'en.
I'm really into names and I was so set on my oldest sons name, which is Adriaan James (Arie) after both my and my husband's maternal grandfather's. I want something that goes with Adriaan, so I picked Nicolaas if I had another son not long after Arie was born. Unfortunately I've never settled on a middle name.
We want something simple and masculine, somewhat traditional, possibly biblical and nothing trendy or unique. Nicolaas is unique in itself since I want(ed) all of my sons to have Dutch first names and English middle names. Which is due to the fact husband and I are both one-fourth Dutch, one-fourth German, and one-fourth Anglo-American. I also spent a year and a half abroad in the Netherlands where I got my MA.
Combinations of Interest:
*Nicolaas John*Nicolaas GordonNicolaas AmosNicolaas Elihu*Nicolaas ThomasNicolaas TimothyNicolaas Robert
*higher ranking
I'm up for any suggestions, and thank you for any help or advice

I favor Nicholaas John. If I had to pick any middle name for Nicholaas that was English, I'd choose Arthur or Henry.

It's narrowed it down to Gordon, John and Eugene so far. Thanks for your input, Both of your suggestions are nice as well. :)

I like Adriaan James and Nicolaas John for brothers a lot. Nicolaas Amos, Nicolaas Thomas, Nicolaas Timothy and Nicolaas Robert are also very handsome.

Adriaan is so, so cool.Nicolaas is great too. The nickname Nico is really cute, if you're into using nicknames?
From the higher-ranking ones I like Nicolaas Thomas and from the lower ranking ones I like Nicolaas Timothy (this is my favourite one).I'd also love Nicolaas Julian, Nicolaas Benjamin and Nicolaas Eli.

I really like Nicolaas John.
My husbands name is Nicolaas (Nico) and he gets quite frustrated because no one ever pronounces his full name correctly, just something to keep in mind if you're not living Dutch speaking area.

I'm sure it will be mispronounced, Adriaan is often mispronounced and no one spells Arie correctly, but I want my kids to have nice names that aren't trendy and aren't common, and tie into our heritage and personal lives. Luckily some in my town might since part of it was founded by Dutch immigrants. At the moment my other son likes his name, obviously he's four though and that will probably change. Still, I think Adriaan James is a wonderful name and I am sure I'll never regret naming him that.My two favorites are Nicolaas John and Nicolaas Gordon, but it's still undetermied. :)Thanks, and my apologies for the drawn out reply, haha!

It's a top competitor. :P

I am not sure Nicolaas Elihu fits the one half-Dutch one half-English, but it is incredibly handsome. Nicholaas Robert is nice too.

Both were shots in the dark, both names in my family. I'm not particularly pleased with Robert because of correlations but I think it's a wonderful name. I love it on it's own, without nicknames. Thanks for the input!

Out of yours I love the middle names Aaron and Benjamin. I especially love Aaron, but don't think it'd work with the aa's so close together. :(My oldest will be 4 1/2 by the time #2 is born, and if another comes I hope they're closer in age, I really want a little sister for them both. But that's miles ahead! I'm just thrilled with the one I have and the one I have to look forward to at the moment. :)Congrats on your upcoming due date by the way! I'll be looking forward to the possible news.

Hello! I saw you earlier on Baby Name Genie; nice to see you again. :)I really like Nicolaas Gordon and Nicolaas Robert, especially the former. Very handsome combos! Good luck and congratulations.

Thanks, it's nice to see you again too! We were originally going to have Adriaan's middle name be Thomas since that's the same as he's named after, so I'm unsure if we might use that for the new baby. Nicolaas Gordon is one of my favorite's as well, and it's my husband's father's name. :)

Congratulations! I like Nicolaas Robert and Nicolaas John the best. Will you use a nickname for Nicolaas?

Thanks for the response. :)We most likely will, we used a diminutive for Arie so I'd like to use one for Nicolaas as well. I'm hoping he doesn't turn up another Nick(y) and I detest Nico personally -not that I believe it's not cute, but personal correlations - so I'm really digging Kai or maybe another nickname that'd fit. Klaas is a nice name, but I'm positive it'd get picked on so that's a no-go. For all that, we won't know entirely until we've met them and I'd be really happy if Arie could help us choose his nickname at least. Still, I think Arie and Kai would be such cute names together!

I didn't know Kai could be a nickname for Nicolaas, that's cool. I agree Arie and Kai would be cute together :)
